WORLDSKILLS AUSTRALIA NATIONAL COMPETITION 2012

Hot on the heels of the London Olympics comes a high-octane competition of an entirely different nature – one designed to sniff out Australia’s next generation of Skillionaires.

From Thursday 30 August 2012 for three action-packed days, the Sydney Showground will play host to the nation’s most ambitious and prestigious skills competition, the WorldSkills Australia National Competition 2012. The battle will bring together 500 of Australia’s elite trainees and apprentices – aged 15 to 25 – to fight for gold in 50 skill and trade categories, ranging from traditional trades of bricklaying and plumbing to other skill professions such as fashion and jewellery design.

The competitors will be tested with a series of time challenges to measure their speed, accuracy, creativity and passion for their chosen trade to uncover Australia’s most gifted young apprentices and future Skillionaires.

Up for grabs is a coveted spot on the Australian WorldSkills Team, known as the Skillaroos, earning a chance to bring home a gold medal at the International WorldSkills Competition, which will be held in Germany, 2013 and will see competitors from 60 countries clash for the top prize in their field.

In addition, around 25 interactive Try’aSkill demonstrations will be available at the event, giving job-seeking young Australians the opportunity to try their hand at a number of career options, ranging from building to beauty, painting to welding.
