Waters continues consistent run with sixth in Supersport at Queensland ASBK

Mildura rising star Nick Waters has continued his consistent run in the penultimate round of the Australian Supersport Championship, finishing a fine sixth overall at Queensland Raceway on 3-5 June.

The Waters Racing/Sunstate Racing Suzuki privateer has been a revelation in 2011 as a rookie in the premier 600cc ranks of Australian road racing, finishing with 6-5 results during Sunday’s pair of 17-lap races.

Waters’ results tied him with elder brother Brodie, who is Team Suzuki’s factory Supersport contender, for fifth overall, however the latter was credited with the position due to his higher finish in race two.

“It was good to get a fair few points wrapped up for the weekend even though it wasn’t what I was hoping,” the talented 18-year-old reflected. “It was difficult coming into the round after not riding for six weeks since we’ve been struggling with funding, so hopefully we can gain more support for the final round and I’ll be able to show them what I can do.”

“It’s going to be hard at the final round at Phillip Island, but I had the pace there at the start of the year, which was my first race on the bike when I was still getting used to it. We have Steve Mudford from Technical Partners working the suspension now, so we’ll come back fighting strong and it should be good.”

Waters now sits seventh in the championship standings after four of five rounds, also maintaining a strong fourth place in the standings for the Privateer Cup with a single round remaining.

The final round of the 2011 Australian Supersport Championship will take place at Phillip Island in Victoria on 18-20 November.
