Vaughan Tools Five Generations Dedicated To Craftmanship

Vaughan tools five generations dedicated to craftmanship

For over 148 years the Vaughan Family has been producing high-quality tools for the professional tradesman and serious do-it-your selfer. This commitment to quality has been the driving force which has propelled the company through five generations.

The Vaughan history and passion is unprecedented in a day and age when most companies sell out or simply source product. In addition to quality, Vaughan has also made a steadfast commitment to produce and manufacture at the highest level in the world. At present, Vaughan is very close to being a ‘green’ company without carrying this distinction. The company currently buys and recycles all steel products used in the manufacturing process. Vaughan also uses recycled cardboard in shipping and recycled PVC resins and fiberglass in manufacturing.

The company that is today Vaughan & Bushnell Mfg. Co. was founded in Peoria, Illinois, by Alexander Vaughan, an 18-year old blacksmith. Alexander had an idea for improving the design of the augers used for digging post holes.

After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed the fledgling Vaughan Company financial strain forced Alexander to seek additional capital. Sidney Bushnell offered to furnish the needed funds. The company was incorporated in 1882 as the Vaughan & Bushnell Mfg. Co.

Today’s Vaughan & Bushnell is of a size and sophistication Alexander Vaughan could scarcely have imagined. While new manufacturing techniques (robots) and processes have played a part, the people of Vaughan are the true foundation of the company’s success.

Vaughan tools are made with an exceptional attention to detail. Five generations of the Vaughan family and the dedicated craftsmen in the factory have stayed the course. The success and longevity is built on five generations of user’s who have experienced and recognized the high value in purchasing and using Vaughan tools. Tools for the pro. Tools that you can be proud of. A family tradition since 1869.
