Red Bull X-Fighters finale returns to Sydney’s Cockatoo Island

Tickets to the highly-anticipated Red Bull X-Fighters freestyle motocross spectacular at Sydney’s Cockatoo Island are now on sale.

The world’s top riders will converge on the iconic venue on October 6 where the final round of the World Tour will be played out.

The 2012 season will reach its climactic conclusion on Australian soil following events in the UAE, USA, Turkey, Spain and Germany.

The course will be designed and shaped from the ground up with a series of challenging jumps built entirely from 6500 tonnes of dirt.

Tickets to last year’s inaugural event sold out within three days, and fans were on hand to witness a local triumph as West Australian Josh Sheehan double-backflipped his way to a historic win.

“To make the finals was an amazing result but I was confident I could go that step further and go for the win,” said Sheehan.

“It’s a career highlight for me, and it was so satisfying to get my first ever Red Bull X-Fighters win on home soil in such an amazing location.

“It’s an event like no other and I am doing all I can to prepare to defend my win.”

A World Heritage-listed site, Cockatoo Island played host to over 11,000 fans in 2011 and Geoff Bailey, Executive Director of the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust said the event offered a great chance to showcase the setting and its rich history.

“The highlight of last year’s Red Bull X-Fighters World Series event was seeing 11,000 fans, most of whom had never been to Cockatoo Island before, having a great time on the day,” said Bailey.

“Cockatoo Island is the largest island in Sydney Harbour – its convict heritage and industrial landscapes, combined with the incredible views across Sydney Harbour, make it a spectacular setting to end the Red Bull X-Fighters World Series Tour.”

Ticket packages start at $69.00 (plus booking fee) including ferry transfers, and are on sale now at ticketek.com.au.
