When two become one

The Bosch GDX 18 V-EC Professional gives the best of both worlds. A unique bit holder combines a ½” square drive for sockets and a ¼” hexagonal drive for standard impact-driver bits.

The Bosch GDX 18 V-EC Professional is the most universal impact driver in its class. It’s unique bit holder combines a ½” square drive for socket-set bits and also a ¼” hexagonal drive for standard impact-driver bits. It’s now even quicker to switch between applications: a quick screw here and then a quick nut tighten there and it’s done. The compact design of the EX Pro gets into the tightest spaces without compromising on power. The three-stage PowerControl gives complete control and precision in a wide range of applications with different torques to suit, and a maximum torque of 185Nm, all the power you need for any application. The speed can also be set with 0-1300/2000/2800rpm and the impact rate from 0-1100/2600/3200 BPM.

So, with such a universal tool, there were plenty of applications around the work site and at home that the GDX 18 V-EC would love to sink a screw or nut into. This little gem will save a pile of time.

TEST #1: VERSATILITY

There were no surprises with this test. We wanted to see how convenient, quick and easy this beast really was to use, so we found as many applications as we could switching between ½” and ¼” bits. First, we smashed baton screws into an LVL, and instantly the power behind the bit was obvious. These 18 V-EC brushless motors are seriously powerful and have plenty of torque. Screw after screw went in with absolute ease.

Next it was an extremely easy, click-on attachment to transform the Bosch into a seriously powerful socket wrench, great for coach bolts and big nuts.

TEST #2: CONTROL

Using different fixings and materials, we tested the ability to control the speed and torque settings. The PowerControl feature is extremely good. It prevents the over-tightening and damaging of heads and threads of the fixings. That means a better finished product, better integrity and they’re easier to undo should you ever need too.

The comfortable handle with soft grip felt great and makes the driver feel like an extension of the hand. The tool itself is compact and lightweight, which also makes it easier to use and control.

THE RESULT

I loved the three LED lights around the bit which really illuminated the work area from all sides and massively reduced shadowing. It was extremely useful in darker areas and under cupboard joinery fitting off. The 5AH batteries had plenty of power and super-quick charging gave 80% recharge after just 45 minutes.

The speed selection feature was easy to use and very handy for different applications, especially for metal roofing fixings. It truly is a fantastic two-in-one tool. The GDX doesn’t compromise anything being a dual tool, it is 100% awesome both as a 1/2″ wrench and 1/4″ hex impact driver.

Perfect for electricians, plumbers, roofers, builders, and especially for construction metalworking and woodworking. It’s a very impressive impact driver wrench, with some serious power.

The GDX removes the need for two separate tools saving significant time and making it a winner in my book.
