AEG 18V Brushless Handheld Dust Extractor

When it comes to portable vacuum power this unit really sucks.

EG’s new 18V Brushless Handheld Dust Extractor is a bit of a beast when it comes to keeping your workplace tidy. There’ll be no more excuses for a messy site with this new vac in your kit. No more MDF dust, gyprock dust or even sparky poo (cable clippings) will be left in sight and the builder/owner of the site will love you.

There’s nothing worse than going to someone’s home or office to do work and leaving a trail of mess behind. It’s really unprofessional and is not a good reflection on you or your business. Keeping clean is really easy, especially with the right gear, and the AEG 18V Brushless Handheld Dust Extractor is the right piece of kit to tick that very box.

TEST 1: PORTABILITY AND SET UP

The AEG 18V dust extractor is very compact and portable. It’s well balanced and the grip handle very comfortable to hold. The unit itself doesn’t take up much real estate in your kit, but is probably one of the more important tools you can carry. Setting up is easy. Just a few quick connections of wand and floor head and you’re away.

The trigger/switch is easy to use and can either be held lightly for a quick suck or clicked once and it’ll stay on. One more click and it turns off.

The extension wand brought the vac to a decent height to be able to stand and vacuum with ease. The washable HEPA filter was easy to access, as was the debris chamber. As much as this tool is compact it’s still big enough to do a proper job, and it’s good to see AEG hasn’t just tried to make it so small and ignored its function. It’s a good balance between size and power.

TEST 2. HOW’S IT SUCK?

When you first turn the AEG on it’s pretty quiet for a vacuum, and I didn’t think it was going to be that powerful. But as soon as it hit the mess, it sucked up the dust and powder on the floor quicker than a party with Scarface. It worked really well. To be honest, for a vacuum of this size, I was surprised at how well it did go.

The motor gives an air flow of 830L/min with a suction of 6kPa, which is said to be the most powerful, best-value, brushless hand-held vac on the market, and it’s not hard to see why. The crevice tool was great for tight areas while the floor head was a good width to get a lot of area cleaned fast.

THE VERDICT

With a RRP of $129 (including GST) for the skin only, the new 18V Brushless Handheld Dust Extractor is an absolute no-brainer to have in your toolkit, especially if you’re already on the AEG battery platform. Great for site, excellent for clean up at clients’ homes or workplaces, or even just as your quick run-around vacuum at home or in the garage. It’s a very SUCKsessful bit of gear!

Oh yeah. I nearly forgot to mention that this is one very cool-looking handheld vac. The designers at AEG must have been revisiting the Battlestar Galactica series when designing this one. It’s a very space- age piece of kit.
